Presentation of Poiares

Poiares was one of the eight communes of Peso da Régua Municipality affected by the 2013 changes. It had 918 inhabitants in 2001 and covered 11,80 km².

Shield Argent two jester heads respectant Proper (two things one expects from a pair of jesters!) capped and collared Gules and belled Or between eight grapevine leaves Vert on orle. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case serifed letters "CANELAS - PESO DA RÉGUA".
Meaning:
The two jesters (Port.: jograis) are Bonami and Acompanhado, to whom a local hamlet was donated by King Sancho I (1185-1211). The leaves represent agriculture, especially viticulture and oliveculture.
