The coat of arms was adopted as official in June 1991 under Municipal President Miguel Martínez Montoya. The designer's name is unknown, but it is known that it was created because the Governor held an initiative for municipal coats of arms in the state. The border has scrolled edges and some grey on them. Above the inner area is "NUEVO MORELOS, TAMAULIPAS"; under it is "FUNDADO EL 19 DE OCTUBRE DE 1860" [foundation date]. The inner area is divided into four sections, two halves and one section at the top, with a small section in the center. The upper section depicts a sugarcane field, cloud, and two men by a group of fruits of the valley. To the left are multiple corn plants over soil, symbol of the sustenance of the inhabitants. To the right is a cow and goat, noting that they are raised here. In the center is the gazebo in the Pablo Gómez plaza.
