It is situated in north-eastern Argentina, near the junction of the Paraná and Salado rivers. Santa Fe has about 390,000 inhabitants per the 2010 census, but the metropolitan area has a population of 653,073, making it the eighth largest in Argentina.
The Municipality of Santa Fe officially approved a revised design of its
capital city flag, reports El Litoral.
The decision, signed by Mayor Juan
Pablo Poletti, finalizes the adaptation of the proposal originally selected in a
public competition and gives the emblem new technical and ceremonial
specifications.
The initial design, chosen in
2024 during the city's 451st anniversary, was created by Jeremías Martínez De
Mattia, who participated under the pseudonym "Guardián del Colgante." His
proposal had been praised by the jury for its balance between symbolism and
clarity, featuring colours inspired by Argentina's national flag and
representing natural and historical elements key to Santa Fe's identity.
Among them were the Paraná and Salado rivers, the Setúbal Lagoon, the values of
peace and integration, the iconic Colgante Bridge framed by laurels, and at its
base, the representation of Argentina's Constitution, underlining Santa Fe's
role as the birthplace of the National Constitution.
The decree highlights, however, that the winning
design underwent a process of technical review. As a result of these
refinements, changes include a modified depiction of the Colgante Bridge, a
reduced blue stripe symbolizing local waterways, added details to the
Constitution book, and smaller laurel branches.
