It is unclear if this flag is still used today. The process for adopting the flag started in April 1975, inviting all middle schools for the creation of one. The best 3 from each school were sent to the county commission for judging; first place received $50, second $25, and third $10. A dedication ceremony was held in July 1976. It is known the winning design was created by Kathleen Rooney of Portsmouth.
