Shield Or, base wavy of Azure and Argent, three calvaries Azure ordered per fess, in central chief a mitre Gules garnished Or with scarves Gules. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials: "FRIASTELAS".
Meaning:
The three calvaries are a local monument, called Calvário de Friastelas. The mitre is an attribute of St. Martin, the local patron saint. The waves in base are symbolizing the riches of water, which gave the power for numerous local water mills in the past.
The golden colour of the shield is symbolizing the material and spiritual riches of the commune, while the blue colour of the calvaries is alluding to a spiritual relation to heaven. The blue colour of the flag was chosen due to heraldiv rules and in order to repeat the blue colour of calvaries and waves in the arms.
