It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a field quartered of blue and white.

Shield Azure with base wavy of Argent and Azure superimposed by a millstone Argent, an embattled tower Argent with port and windows Gules and masoned Sable, flanked at dexter by a crozier Or in bend sinister, at sinister by a radiant sun Or with face, in chief, a Marian crown Or. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll with inscription in black capitals "VILA DE FAJÕES".
Meaning:
The crown is probably referring to Our Lady of Ribeira, to whom is dedicated an ermitage. Furthermore there are four chapels in Faj�es, dedicated to Our Lady of Ribeira, Our Lady of Lapa, Our Lady of Salubriousness and Our Lady of Sorrows.
