Meaning:
"Venda nova" means "new saleyard" and the arms are not canting - they refer to the local importance of beekeeping and hydro power generation.

Flag

We can presume it was a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centered on a currently unknown background.

Coat of Arms

[Pondras commune CoA (until 2013)] image by António Martins-Tuválkin and Sérgio Horta, 6 July 2024

Shield Vert two keys with their wards upwards in saltire, one Or in bend over another Argent in bend sinister, issuant from chief a demi sun Or nimbused Argent and charged with a pointer Gules, issuant from flanches and from base Argent wavy charged with a barrulet Azure wavy a hump bridge Argent masoned Sable. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case serifed letters "PONDRAS - MONTALEGRE".
Meaning:
There is only one settlement in Portugal with this name; the inclusion of the name of the encompassing municipality is therefore unjustified. The unexpected white nimbus around the sun is not included in the original blazon; its unusual representation seems to refer to a sundial. The keys are an attribute of St. Peter.
