The Statutes of the company, redacted on 20 November 1998 were officially registered on 25 November 1998 in Capellen, and further consolidated on 15 December 1998 in Niederkerschen; they were inscribed on the Register of Commerce and Companies of Luxembourg on 16 December 1998, as published on 22 February 1999 in the Luxembourg official gazette, No. 107 (text), p. 5,090.
The company was founded by the German firm Hansatank, Schiffahrt- und Befrachtungsgesellschaft mbH from Osnabrück, together with Uwe Beckman, private businessman.

The house flag of Hansatank, as seen in real in September 2006, is blue with three white waves surmounted by a white lozenge bordered red-white-blue and charged with the blue letters HTL. The flag is therefore on the model of the houseflag of the Reederei Jaegers group of company, owner of Hansatank.
A Hansatank Luxembourg table flag was offerred on German eBay in December 2006. The flag is checkered of nine pieces (3 x 3) blue and yellow, the piece in the upper hoist being blue, with the letters "HTL" (without serifs) placed in the middle row, countercoloured.
