Overview

Adopted: 28 December 1995. Prop.: 2:3. Lehtse is a rural municipality (vald) in Jarvamaa County (Maakond).
Dov Gutterman, 19 November 1999

From <www.rk.ee>: Three silver circles come from the coat of arms of the family of Hoyningen-Huene who owned the manor of Lehtse. Colors refer to the peatbogs and peat industry.
Erki Kurrikoff, 14 April 2001

Saksi vald and Tapa linn from Laane-Virumaa County with Lehtse vald from Jarvamaa county have formed a new municipality called Tapa vald in Laane-Virumaa county at 20 October 2005.
Erki Kurrikoff, 4 November 2005

The flag of Lehtse Parish was the flag of Lehtse Parish—a former Estonian administrative unit in Järva County—until its merger with the town of Tapa and Saksi Parish in October 2005 to form Tapa Parish in Lääne-Viru County. The flag was in use from December 28, 1995, until October 2005. The flag of Lehtse Municipality was a rectangular banner of arms. The field was divided into two by a white serrated diagonal line; the upper section (on the hoist side) was red and featured three white rings, while the lower section (on the hoist side) was black. The three white rings were a modified element from the coat of arms of the F.A.G. von Hoyningen-Huene family (1843–1921), associated with the Lehtse (Lechts) estate. He was an internationally renowned researcher of the natural history of Estonia, Livonia, and Courland (primarily a lepidopterist). Another notable scientist (geographer) and author of school textbooks, Jakob Kents (1883–1947), also hailed from the Lehtse estate (represented by the white serrated line). The flag's colors symbolize peat and the peat industry, which provided employment and a livelihood for many local residents and served as a primary driver of the development of the small town of Lehtse. The standard dimensions of the flag were 100 x 150 cm, with a width-to-length ratio of 6:9 units. Lehtse, together with the municipality of Saksi and the town of Tapa vald, formed the new municipality of Tapa, thereby moving from Järva County to Lääne-Viru County.
