Description of coat of arms:
Shield Vert, a 5-spokes wheel Or, in chief a coronet Or.
Meaning:
The arms are based on the old arms of the town, which are known from seals and buildings since the early 18th century. The wheel is alluding to the Bishopric of Osnabrüück, to which the market town historically belonged. The coronet probably was a mere decoration without special meaning, which had been added with palm fronds in the baroque era. When the arms were granted the colour green was chosen as a symbol for the Teutoburger Forest and the rural character of Dissen.
When the arms were approved in 1968, the fronds were omitted and the number of spokes was reduced to five.
