Hockenheim Coat of Arms

The shield is divided per fess into black over blue. Above is a golden (= yellow), double queued demi lion issuant, crowned , armed and tongued red. Below are two silver (= white) hooks, crossed per saltire.
Meaning:
The arms combine the lion of the Palatinate and two hooks as a canting symbol (German: Haken; local: Hogckna, i.e. hook). The arms were based upon a 16th century seal of the village. It displayed a Palatine lion couchant guardant above the two hooks. A later seal shows three roses in addition to the hooks in the lower part of the shield. When the town became a dominion of Baden, the lion was removed. The hooks were still used in the arms and symbols of the town. The lion was reinstalled in 1893.

The present coat of arms was granted in 1895, when the town gained city rights.
