According to official information of the Chilean Navy, the penguins in the Arturo Prat Base Coat of Arms, are a pair of Pingüino Adelia (Adelie Penguin in English). The name used by biologists is Pygoscelis adeliae.

The coat of arms can be seen on a postage stamp issued in 1997 by the Chilean Post to commermorate the 50th anniversary of this naval base. (stamp Nr. 1413 in Yvert & Tellier catalogue).
