The coat of arms adopted in 1997 was subsequently slightly changed to a "triarched triangular" shield.
The municipal "Book of Graphic Standards" (Knjiga grafićkih standarda), prescribed by Decision Odluka o usvajanju Knjige grafićkih standarda, adopted on 29 March 2012 by the Municipality Council and published on 11 April 2012 in the Municipal official gazette Službeni glasnik Općine Tešanj, No. 3 (text), includes a formal description of the coat of arms. The colours are given as:
- Green: Pantone 356; CMYK (%): 100-0-90-20; RGB: 0-133-63; RAL 6016;
- Yellow: Pantone Yellow c; CMYK (%): 0-5-100-0; RGB: 255-230-0; RAL 1018.

Former coat of arms

The coat of arms is prescribed by Decision Odluka o Grbu općine Tešanj (text), adopted on 17 March 1997 and published in Službeni glasnik Općine Tešanj, No. 2.
The coat of arms is yellow with a green skyline of the old town with the clock-tower and minaret, a yellow wavy line below it and an open white book in the base. The coat of arms as originally adopted has the shield with pronounced angles in the base.
